Engagement with the Community Outside of the Classroom
Creating a supportive learning and teaching environment is vital to supporting all professionals in the school. As a teacher,I prefer to give students agency over their communication and responsibilities with me. However, there are times when parents and other school professionals must and should be included and lines of communication must remain open and available for the emotional, physical and academic well being of the student.
Connection with Students and Parents
Canvas helps engage parents, students and teachers. It is an online resource where teachers can post reminders, assignments and links that sends an email to students every time it is updated.
I often encourage parents to ask their student to share their Canvas account with them to give students agency over their own learning and responsibilities. However, parents can be added to the resource and receive the same updates as it is another mode of communication between the school and home communities.

Communication with School Counselor
Communicating with professionals for the sake of a student's welfare is invaluable when it comes to a student's safety and well being. The first example below is an example of a conversation between my mentor teacher, the school counseling professional and I with concern for one of our students. Lines of communication must remain open and aware between professionals in a school in order to keep students in a safe and caring environment.
Content and Curriculum Exchange
Content and curriculum exchange creates a collaborative professional community within the school. Working together only makes curriculum and teachers better, and engaging with other professionals develops everyone's skills and academic repertoire.
