Works with Students as Individuals
Students are unique; therefore, it is vital that my practice include as many opportunities to let my students express their identities in the classroom. A diverse classroom provides students a chance to explore different perspectives; it is my goal to help as many as those perspectives shine in my classroom.
ChristinaThroughout the year, sophomores at my high school are required to complete a personal project for their MYP courses. Christina decided to write a book of her original poetry, consisting of a piece she wrote every day. We talked a great deal about her project over the course of the year, from discussing writing and motivation strategies, to giving her online resources and a book on poetry. This kid has worked so hard all semester and has created a fabulous final product, complete with rough drafts, her writing journal, illustrations, a cover for a potential poetry book, and her final drafts. I am so proud of her and all of her accomplishments!

DeniseAs part of my studies as an intern, I participated in a case study of one of my students I noticed struggled connecting and engaging in class. The link below comprises my entire study of 'Denise', from observing her behavior in class to an action plan to help reengage her in my classroom. Denise's performance after the implementation of this study and action plan has improved her engagement in class and has paved the way for interactions with similar students in the future.

Walk a Mile in Someone Else's Shoes Blog Project
The Walk a Mile in Someone Else's Shoes Project is the culminating project of my To Kill a Mockingbird unit. It asks students to show us life from their perspective in the form of blog posts. This project gives students the chance to literally show their lives from their own point of view. The project invites students to share themselves and their experiences to their classmates in a safe, respectful and academic environment. This project allows for individual students to share their experiences and identities in connection to Atticus' famous advice, in order to truly understand someone, you must step into their skin and walk around in it.
Poetry Project Student Example
The last piece is a student's final Poetry Project creative piece for our summative assessment for our poetry unit. This project allowed students to write about anything so long as they followed the guidelines of the project. I encouraged students to include their own experiences, cultures, and languages in their pieces. This students' example depicts an assignment that is both academic, creative and geared towards the individual student.
